Celebrate marriage with a jubilee | Religion

On February 12, St. Scholastica Catholic Church held a wedding jubilee mass for the couples. Due to the pandemic situation, the jubilee had to be canceled in 2021.

This year the church honored couples who celebrated their anniversaries in 2021 and 2022. There were 44 couples in attendance who celebrated their 50th, 55th, 60th and beyond.

Ron and Wanda Lamar were the most married at 70.

Members of the Parish Advisory Council registered celebrants at the church gate and members of the Knights of Columbus escorted celebrants to their seats. Music Director John Edel provided the music and his voice during the Mass, celebrated by Pastor James Johnson and assisted by Fr. Jo Jo Tejada.

After mass, a reception was organized in the parish hall with the help of the Parish Council of Catholic Women. CCW provided table decorations, flowers and service, serving the many celebrants. Members of the Parish Advisory Council and Knights of Columbus helped with seating, refilling drink glasses, removing used plates from tables and cleaning up.

Many thanks to Ann Marie Briercheck of Tuscany on the Meadows for donating cupcakes for dessert with the beautiful serving display.

Ron and Wanda Lamar were married on August 9, 1952 in Tell City, Indiana. They moved to Citrus County 55 years ago and currently live in Terra Vista. Ron was a financial consultant and Wanda was a homemaker and mother to their two adopted children, who blessed them with four grandchildren.

When asked about their hobbies, Ron said watching the stock market and traveling the world with Wanda. Wanda said to travel with Ron and entertain.

Their most memorable wedding moment was hard to decide because they had so many wonderful moments. Trips to Italy and visiting the D-Day site on the 50th anniversary of the invasion would top the list.

When asked for advice to newlyweds, Ron said, “Marry the right woman and listen to her.”
