Global Undergraduate Exchange Program 2023-2024

The U.S. Embassy Beirut is pleased to announce the 2023-2024 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program, one academic semester study program in the United States sponsored by the United States Department of State. Students will enroll full-time, without diploma, undergraduate coursework selected from the existing curriculum at their host institution. They will be required to take a 3-credit American Studies course to enhance their understanding of the United States. Students will live in on-campus housing with American peers and be required to participate in 20 hours of community service. Programs will start either in August 2023 Where January 2024, and students should check with their home institution for transfer of credits earned during this program. Eligibility:

Competition for the UGRAD Global Program is merit-based. Eligible applicants must be:

  • Lebanese citizens or holders of Special travel document for Palestinian refugees issued by Lebanese authorities (US citizens, dual US citizens and US permanent residents are ineligible to apply);
  • Undergraduate students in the first, second or third year of a full-time undergraduate program at an academic institution registered in Lebanon at the time of application (part-time students or correspondence students are not eligible); and
  • 18-25 years old and have at least one academic semester remaining to complete their undergraduate studies after the end of this exchange program in December 2023 or May 2024.

Preference will be given to those with little or no experience in the United States or outside of their home country. Applicants are required to return directly to their home country after completion of the program.

Application and deadline:

  • Two letters of recommendation (in English) including one from the candidate’s current institution. (The applicant will need to include the email address of the referee who will submit the recommendation on their behalf when completing the online application.)
  • Transcripts (in English) for the current year and the previous year, from high school or university. If the transcripts are in Arabic or French, copies translated by a sworn translator must be uploaded along with the original language version.
  • Copy of passport biodata page (if available at time of application).
  • Note: TOEFL scores are NOT required but must be included if available.

The US government pays for participants’ international travel, college tuition, room and board, health insurance, a small monthly stipend, and book funding. The competition is merit-based and students from all backgrounds are welcome to apply. Applicants will be considered regardless of race, religion, gender, age and/or physical disability.
