Kaplan speaks out after distributing a flyer targeting Jewish and transgender leaders filled with anti-Semitic tropes in the communities of Rockville Center, NY and Oceanside, NY
CARLE PLACE, NY (July 22, 2022) — In the latest example of a far-right group on Long Island seeking to terrorize members of the local community with a despicable message of hate, a group calling itself the “Goyim Defense Leaguedistributed outrageously anti-Semitic, transphobic and hateful flyers in the Rockville Center and Oceanside communities in Nassau County, New York. The incident comes just two months after the racist “Proud Boys” and neofascists marched through the same community, in an incident Senator Anna M. Kaplan (D-North Hills) decried as “nothing more than a modern-day Klan march happening in our community.”
Senator Anna M. Kaplan said: “Under no circumstances can we remain silent in the face of the vile filth being spread by extremist groups seeking to poison our community with their repugnant rhetoric. The anti-Semitic garbage strewn around Rockville Center and Oceanside this week is just the latest of a long series of recent incidents that have impacted our community and are motivated by anti-Semitism and hate, and we all need to come together and send a strong message that we will never accept these groups or their shameful and un-American beliefs in our community.”
Flyers distributed throughout Rockville Center this week include the headlines “LETS GO BRANDON” with the subtitle “EVERY ASPECT OF THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION IS JEWISH, and FACTS DON’T CARE ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS” with a row of photographs of Jewish members of the Biden Administration, along with their names, titles and an Israeli flag. Two of the individuals are marked TRANSGENDER in red writing.
Senator Kaplan continued “Targeting public officials for their LGBTQ+ faith, beliefs and identity is a tactic we’ve seen employed across the country to terrorize and intimidate public officials since the start of the Trump era, something recently brought to light. evidence during the Hearings on January 6. This tactic not only keeps good people out of public service, it puts all who answer the call to serve in grave danger and, in too many cases “, it results in acts of political violence. As Americans, we need to reject these tactics with every ounce of courage we have. That’s not who we are.”
The second side of the leaflet includes the title “THE PROTOCOLS OF THE LEARNED ANCIENTS OF ZION” with the subtitle “THE JEW’S PLAN FOR WORLD DOMINATION”. The long list that follows is a catalog of anti-Semitic tropes that have been used for centuries to demonize, stigmatize and oppress Jews around the world.
Senator Kaplan concluded “we all deserve to live in a community free from hate and prejudice, and I am extremely grateful for the dedicated efforts of the Nassau County Police and all local law enforcement officers who show up every day to keep our community safe. I appreciate their hard work every day, and especially their efforts to investigate this heinous incident. I urge any Nassau resident who may have information about this incident to contact the first team of the NCPD at 516-573-6152, or if you wish to remain anonymous, you can submit a tip to Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS (8477).”
